Chef’s Corner: The Cannery Grill

By Emily Bradley

In 1901 the Oconomowoc Canning Company called Sun Prairie home, rolling canned vegetables off the assembly line for 100 years before closing its doors. Today, the building itself hasn’t changed much, but the food made in its confines certainly has thanks to the Cannery Grill. While comfort foods are whipped up in the kitchen, patrons enjoy taking a trip down memory lane.

“[Diners] tell me, ‘I used to work right there, shucking corn at my first job,’” says general manager Shaun O’Hearn.

Nostalgia draws guests in, but good food keeps them coming back. Plating up an array of burgers, sandwiches, steaks and the ever popular flatbread pizzas, Cannery Grill offers options for every tastebud. “We’re keeping it fresh and making it fun,” says O’Hearn. And that suits his customers just fine.

The Cannery Grill is located at 315 E. Linnerud Dr., Sun Prairie; (608) 837-4999 or thecannerygrill.com.
